Gift Aid
Gift Aid is a simple scheme which increases the value of donations to charity by 28.2% at no extra cost to the charity or the donor
Gift Aid is a great way of boosting donations whatever their size, at no extra cost to the donor, and with little extra administration for the charity. There is no minimum or maximum donation level and the information required from the donor is simple, making Gift Aid an extremely effective and flexible way to give.
Dot Griew, Institute of Fundraising, said that ‘It’s a great way for charities to get extra money. In addition other non-profitable voluntary organisations may be able to claim Gift Aid – they should ask the tax office if they can claim, as many of them can.’
Recent changes regarding Gift Aid mean that charities can claim Gift Aid tax relief of 28p on every pound in donations. HMRC will also be operating transitional provisions for Gift Aid donations made from 6 April 2008 until 5 April 2011, paying a Government supplement of 3p on every pound donated.
