Grant Scheme

Giving Sir Gâr Grant Scheme

Following the launch of the grant scheme by Andrew Davies, Welsh Assembly Minister for Finance and Public Sector Delivery at the Mount in October 2009, the distribution of grants from the Giving Sir Gâr has begun.

Fourteen Carmarthenshire groups, including Age Concern Sir, Ammanford Junior Gateway and Llanelli Disabled Drivers Group are celebrating for being the first successful recipients of a unique funding scheme targeted at supporting local good causes.

The scheme, the first of its kind in Wales, has been developed in Carmarthenshire from the Welsh Assembly Government’s Corporate Challenge Programme, which aims to develop and enhance the relationships between businesses and the voluntary sector.

It pulls together a new source of funding for local charities, voluntary and community groups in the county, and enables them to develop and continue their vital activities through the generosity of individual employees through payroll giving schemes, donations and sponsorship opportunities from local businesses.

Giving Sir Gar grant scheme panel

Rewarding voluntary effort

The independent panel, which was representative of all three sectors, met to shortlist the applications included Cris Tomos (Deputy Director, CAVS), Peter Loughran (Chair of Trustees for Giving Sir Gâr), Clive Scourfield (Executive Board Member for Regeneration Carmarthenshire County Council), George Parker (Managing Director of Parker Plant Hire Ltd.), and Helen Martin (CAVS).

Cllr. Scourfield said “We are absolutely delighted to be able to support local groups through the grants and the supporters can see the rewards of their generosity and the efforts that have gone into establishing this fund. It was great to be asked to be on the panel and see first hand what we have achieved through good partnership working.”
